How to Choose the Right Snap-On Lid
The critical measurement is the diameter of the can, tin or tub you are sealing — measure the outer rim and match it to the lid size (we stock 54mm/68mm through to 189mm). A correctly matched lid snaps on with an airtight, reusable seal; an approximate match will leak or pop off.
Also consider material and volume. All our lids are food-grade and BPA-free, supplied in manufacturer-scale cartons with consistent tolerances so they run reliably on automated lines. If you fill multiple container sizes, order a matched set of diameters rather than forcing one size to fit several.
Frequently Asked Questions
Are the lids reusable and airtight?
Yes. Snap-on overcaps create a secure, airtight reseal that customers can reuse, which is part of their appeal for coffee tins, spice cans and sample tubs.
How do I know which size I need?
Measure the outer diameter of your tin or tub rim in millimetres and match it to the nearest lid size. If you are unsure, send us a sample spec and we will confirm the fit.
What carton quantities are available?
Carton sizes vary by diameter — from a few hundred for large lids up to 2,500+ for small ones. Request a quote with your sizes and volumes for exact carton counts and pricing.
Confirm lid compatibility before a bulk order
Snap-on lids and overcaps must be matched to the exact container or closure interface. A similar nominal diameter does not guarantee a reliable fit across different container designs. Obtain the container specification or send a representative sample, then test fit, removal and handling under the intended packing conditions before approving production quantities.
Order-planning checklist
- Identify the container, rim or closure being covered and record the relevant dimensions and supplier reference.
- Test a sample lid on the actual container, including normal application and removal by the intended user.
- Confirm material, colour and any reuse or handling requirements within the buyer’s packaging specification.
- Calculate quantities from packing volume, line trials, quality samples and a controlled allowance for setup losses.
Plan for day-to-day use
Keep approved lid and container references together so purchasing does not substitute a visually similar item without a fit test. During receiving, compare the delivered batch with the retained reference and follow the organisation’s quality-control process. Store lids clean, dry and protected from deformation. Where several diameters are used, separate and label stock clearly; small size differences can be difficult to identify during a busy packing shift and can lead to avoidable rework.
Request an accurate trade quote
Send the required diameter or product reference, container details, quantity, colour and delivery destination. State whether the lid is for a new packaging trial or an established container, and request samples when compatibility has not yet been confirmed. Mitrend can then identify suitable snap-on lid and overcap options and quote the related quantities without treating diameter alone as proof of fit.
