Choosing the right size
Smaller scoops (165-220mm) suit bar service, garnish stations and dosing smaller containers; mid sizes (250-270mm) are the all-round choice for ice wells and dry stores; the 350mm and 400mm scoops move bulk ice and ingredients fast in high-volume kitchens, butcheries and production lines.
Ice scoop size guide

Aluminium scoops are sized by overall length. As a rule of thumb, the longer the scoop, the larger the bowl capacity and the faster you can move ice or dry goods. This guide compares the full Mitrend range:
| Length | Best suited for |
|---|---|
| 165mm | Garnish stations, spice bins and small bar wells |
| 180mm | Cocktail bars and coffee stations |
| 210mm | Dry goods dispensing and mid-size ice wells |
| 250mm | All-round kitchen and dry store use |
| 270mm | Busy ice wells and self-service stations |
| 400mm | Bulk ice machines, flour and grain bins |
| 400mm heavy-duty | High-volume storage and production kitchens |
Why aluminium?
Aluminium is the industry standard for ice and dry-goods scoops because it is light enough for repeated one-handed use, will not rust, chip or crack like plastic alternatives, and transfers cold quickly so ice does not clump against the bowl. A one-piece spun construction means there are no seams, welds or rivets where bacteria can collect – an important consideration for HACCP-run kitchens.
Care and cleaning
Wash in warm soapy water or a commercial dishwasher and dry promptly. Avoid caustic or high-alkaline detergents, which can discolour aluminium over time – the discolouration is cosmetic and does not affect food safety. Store the scoop outside the ice bin, on a hook or in a scoop holder, to comply with food-safety best practice.
